Podcast Interview: Autoimmune Healing & Self-Advocacy

I had the incredible opportunity to participate in a podcast this month, and am excited to share about it with you all!

Martha Rosenstein invited me to guest speak on her podcast, The Paleo NP Podcast, to discuss my experience with naturally healing autoimmune disease.

Martha is a Functional Medicine Nurse Practitioner who is passionate about helping people heal from chronic disease and autoimmune illness from the inside out. I am grateful to have met her through a collaborative blogging group! For more information on Martha and her blog and services, check out her personal wellness site.

A major theme that drew us together is our mutual understanding that living with a chronic illness does not have to be life defining.

In other words, we are of the same mindset that there are lifestyle changes that can be implemented to prevent many illnesses from progressing; We have both experienced this firsthand.

I think Martha said it best:

“Neither your genetics nor your disease hold the key to your future…you do!”

We had a great discussion about where to begin when navigating difficult health symptoms, how diet can influence health conditions and play a role in healing, and how simple lifestyle changes such as managing stress can improve health.

A majority of our conversation centered around diet protocol, as food is crucial to healing. If you’re interested in what my typical diet consists of, follow me over on Instagram where I shamelessly share about my meals. ☺️

A fun part of our conversation was centered around self-care.

We enjoyed chatting about some of our favorite self-care activities and products. Self-care is important because in order for healing to occur, our spiritual, mental, physical, and emotional well-being all needs to be in balance. I think there is much to be said about this and will be back soon to write more on this topic!

Swapping out conventional products that are harmful to our health and venturing into the world of toxic-free products can be intimidating. But we were surprised to find out that we love similar brands and even use a few of the same products!

If you’re in the market for a natural deodorant that WORKS, Primally Pure is where it’s at! (My favorite is PP’s charcoal deodorant). We both use all things Beautycounter for toxic-free skin care, makeup, and other pampering essentials (like this amazing lemongrass scrub).

I personally love & highly recommend Young Living’s Thieves line for natural essentials like toothpaste, mouthwash, and household cleaning. I have used the Thieves household cleaner for YEARS now and love it because it safely cleans everything from my baby’s highchair and toys to windows and the bathroom without harmful toxins. It’s a plant-based disinfectant that smells amazing and makes cleaning somewhat fun! Use my membership link for 24% off all Young Living products including Thieves.

We also discussed another really important aspect that is critical to healing: self-advocacy.

Why? Because many people relay symptoms to their doctor and do not receive an accurate diagnosis . . . or if they do get a diagnosis, they may not receive the latest information for treating and managing their condition. Unfortunately for some, it takes years for an accurate diagnosis.

This is where your responsibility for your own health comes into play. At the end of the day, you are your best advocate for your health because you know how you truly feel.

Regardless of diagnosis, there are so many things you can be doing to improve your health. YES, medicine is a gift and should be utilized when needed, but we are also responsible for contributing towards our well-being.

I hope you get to listen to the podcast and that it is helpful to you in some way. Please reach out if you have any questions about how these lifestyle changes have improved my autoimmune condition! I’d love to chat.

Live vibrant & abundant,

❤ Terriann
